Looking Over the Edge

By Fred Kusch

As I craft my first column for L.I.N.K., I do so in hopes of providing you a bit of insight into how I will approach each offering. While I will “Look Over the Edge” at all aspects of what I perceive to be the human condition of the day, I assure you that I will do so in a thoughtful, yet challenging, way. In addition, I will attempt to use humor and optimism to ground my comments. I hope you enjoy my remarks and that they cause you to stop and think.

With this in mind, I offer you some thoughts on the concept of optimism. I challenge you to start your day on a positive note by reading optimistic quotes and sayings. Hopefully, these quotes will offer you inspiration to look at the day as a glass half-full; they will focus your thoughts on what’s positive in life. And, when you fill your mind with positive thoughts, you will find yourself demonstrating positive thinking and behaviors. In my experience, successful, satisfied people are optimists who spread that optimism to others. Surround yourself with optimistic people and you will surround yourself with success.

“Life is too short to spend your precious time trying to convince a person who wants to live in gloom and doom otherwise. Give lifting that person your best shot, but don’t hang around long enough for his or her bad attitude to pull you down. Instead, surround yourself with optimistic people.”
— Zig Ziglar

“I’m an optimist. I’ve always believed the future is going to be better than the past. And I also believe I have a role in that. The great thing about human beings, myself in particular, is that I can change. I can do better. If you can get up every day, stay optimistic, and believe the future is better than the past, those few things get you through a lot of tough times.”
