Traveling with Rocky Mountaineer rail tours, a truly moving train journey (no pun intended!), is a combination of rail by day, hotel by night and guided sightseeing via motor coach with myriad tour components available from Rocky Mountaineer vacations.
Lori King, travel sales agent with Travel Leaders/Goli’s Avenues of Travel and Rocky Mountaineer specialist, personally experienced the Canadian Rockies Adventure, one of the most popular itineraries, which begins in Vancouver. On this tour, stay one night (included) or add additional time in this beautiful coastal city. The next morning, transfer to the train station and board the bi-level domed car. With GoldLeaf Service, the upper level of the deluxe rail car offers comfortable leather seating and a glass-domed roof that provides unobstructed views both “out” and “up.” The lower level contains the dining car where delectable breakfasts and lunches are served. In addition, drinks and snacks are provided to abate midmorning or late-afternoon hunger pangs.
Also on the GoldLeaf cars’ lower level, an outdoor, open-air vestibule is available for photo enthusiasts or those wanting to enjoy the fresh Canadian air.
Travel through the legendary Spiral Tunnels and pass by Craigellachie, the spot where the ceremonial last spike was driven into the Canadian Pacific Railway. Rocky Mountaineer provides the only passenger rail service on this historic route, celebrated for connecting Canada from West to East. Be inspired by the Continental Divide as the luxury train passes spectacular mountains and dramatic canyons.
Sit back and relax, enjoying the incredible scenery while knowledgeable and friendly hosts provide history along the way and point out wildlife, such as bighorn sheep, elk and bear!
The first rail day draws to a close and the train stops midway between Vancouver and Banff in the rustic city of Kamloops. Guests are transferred to a modest hotel for the night and then rise bright and early the next morning to re-board the Rocky Mountaineer train for the journey to Banff. The scenery becomes more majestic as the Canadian Rockies and turquoise-colored streams are in their full glory. As day two of the rail journey ends in the early evening, guests are transferred to their splendid accommodations for two nights each in Banff and Lake Louise.
Spectacular sightseeing is included: the Athabasca Glacier on the Ice Explorer, a visit to Emerald Lake, a summit helicopter ride and much more, plus free time to enjoy beautiful trails around Lake Louise. Add Jasper to your journey, or better yet, begin in Seattle and take the coastal ride up to Vancouver to join up with the Canadian Rockies tour.
A journey by Rocky Mountaineer is not to be missed. You’ll be truly moved … at about 35 mph!
