When you venture out to go sheet shopping, you often find a lot of information on thread counts, sheet types and sheet finishes, but do you understand what all of this really means? If not, that’s OK because The Company Store Outlet provides knowledgeable and friendly staff members who take the time to help you find the right sheets for you and your family.
One of the most important sheet terms you’ll notice is thread count (TC), which is a measure of the coarseness or fineness of fabric gauged by counting the number of threads contained in one square inch of fabric. This number is equal to the total amount of threads counted along two sides of the square inch (up and across). Thread count is often used as a measure of fabric quality. “Standard” cotton averages around 180TC, while good-quality sheets start at 200.
The Company Store Outlet offers five main types of sheets with a range of thread counts.
Egyptian cotton sheets have a high thread count (600TC), which explains why the fabric is so strong yet lightweight and breathes well. The feel of Egyptian cotton sheets is a bit stiffer than other cottons when the bedding is new. However, with every single wash, the fibers become softer and softer. Cotton grown in the Egyptian fields will also produce less lint, so it won’t pill after repeated washings unlike some other materials. Best of all, these sheets can last for decades.
A bit lower in thread count is the 500TC Supima Sateen. Supima sheets are made exclusively of extra-long staple cotton grown in the U.S. and have become the cotton of choice among the world’s fine-count yarn spinners. These 100 percent cotton sheets are given a sateen finish that results in a high thread count, exceptionally soft feel, and a smooth, lustrous finish resembling satin.
Another option with a relatively high thread count is the 450TC Wrinkle-Free Sateen sheets. Similar to the Supima Sateen sheets, these sheets have a soft, satin-like feel. They are wrinkle-resistant because the sheets automatically release wrinkles from the fabric, unlike regular cotton sheets, giving you a pristine look from the moment you remove them from the dryer.
Percale sheets are a plain-weave fabric made from both carded and combed cotton yarns. They come in thread counts of 210, 300 and 400. Percales are lightweight and closely woven with a smooth finish, giving them that crisp feel.
The last main type of sheet The Company Store Outlet offers is 300TC Organic. These sheets come from fabric that is 100 percent organic cotton following the Global Organic Textile Standard.
