American Made—R
This is the true-ish story of a commercial TWA pilot, Barry Seal, who is recruited by the CIA to fly reconnaissance missions over Central America. Seal gets mixed up with a Colombian drug cartel and the DEA. Eventually, other abbreviated government agencies get involved, and Seal’s reputation, family, life and freedom are at stake, not to mention the safety of the U.S. itself. This action-comedy-thriller stars Tom Cruise and is scheduled for release Jan. 2.

Loving Vincent—PG-13
Imagine the story of Vincent Van Gogh’s last days, told through the painted animation of Van Gogh’s style. When previous delivery attempts are unsuccessful, a young man named Armand is given the job of delivering a letter from the late Vincent to his brother Theo. In his journey, Armand learns about the great painting master’s last and tragic days. This film is the first of its kind and is a beautiful masterpiece involving 65,000 oil paintings on canvas, created by a team of 115 painters. “Loving Vincent” will be released Jan. 16.

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency: Season 2—TV-14
In a world where everything connects (a missing woman, murder, lost pets, a lottery ticket), holistic detective Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) and his reluctant assistant Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood) work together (sometimes against each other) to solve crime. Absurd hostage situations, complicated and improbable crime scenes, and dangerous people fill each episode with suspense and shenanigans. This paranormal, sci-fi, dark comedic television show is based on books by Douglas Adams and will be available Jan. 23.
